Golden Talent Blossoms
A 10-year-old from Overton has helped grow Olympic excitement in the borough – quite literally.
In a competition set by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to design a London 2012 themed flowerbed, former Mayor Cllr David Leeks handpicked Chloe Pritchard’s creative idea for gold medal glory.
The Hatch Warren Junior School pupil’s original design has now been brought to life in flowers and foliage and planted in Eastrop Park for everyone to enjoy.
In choosing her design Chloe said: “I started to think about what was important to Britain and the Olympics like the flag and the rings, then I incorporated each of them into a design.
“It’s very exciting seeing my picture come to life and helping Basingstoke and Deane to celebrate London 2012.”
Cabinet Member for Communities, Sport and Culture Cllr Elaine Still said: “We were really impressed with Chloe’s design on paper and hope she is as pleased with the end result as we are.
“As London 2012 draws nearer and with the Torch Relay coming through the borough in less than a month, this is a splendid way to help build excitement in Basingstoke and Deane for what could be a once in a lifetime occasion for the country.”
