Oxfam calls for volunteers to steward at Chris Evans’ CarFest

Oxfam Stewarding today announces an exciting new partnership with CarFest, the brainchild of BBC Radio 2’s Chris Evans and one of 2012’s most anticipated sell-out summer festivals.

Oxfam is opening up the unique opportunity for car and festival lovers alike to become part of the on-the-ground team making CarFest happen. As well as being a fun and rewarding experience, volunteering as a steward helps raise money for Oxfam’s life-changing work around the world. The charity is recruiting 500 volunteers to work across the two CarFest festivals sites in Hampshire and Cheshire and applications are now open.

Carfest was conceived by Chris Evans as his dream of the perfect family festival; a unique event which combines classic cars, live music and food whilst also raising money for BBC Children in Need.  The festival will take place on 25-26 August at Laverstoke Park Farm in Hampshire and on the 8-9 September at Cholmondeley Castle in Cheshire.  Chris’s vision has proved an immediate success and tickets to both events have already sold out.

Emma Parkinson, Stewarding Manager at Oxfam, said: “CarFest is such an exciting concept and we’re thrilled to be involved. Oxfam provides stewarding services to broad range of festivals, from family-oriented to music-focused events, and people from all ages and walks of life get involved.  We’re aiming to double our stewarding service in the next few years and CarFest is a great opportunity to reach a new demographic of people and encourage them to consider volunteering.”

Nicola Meadley, CarFest Event Director, said:“Oxfam Stewards offer a great solution to how to look after visitors, whilst ensuring that all volunteers are properly vetted, managed and looked after on site.  We’re looking forward to welcoming a group of car mad volunteers to CarFest”

Oxfam’s stewards will help ensure the smooth and safe running of the CarFest events so they are enjoyed by all. In return, stewards are provided with exclusive staff camping, meals whilst on duty, warm showers and when not on shift, are free to enjoy the events and entertainment as they please. Five things Oxfam Stewards are most looking forward to at CarFest:

  1. A great line music up from bands including Texas, Razorlight, The Feeling, The Magic Numbers, The Counterfeit Stones, Merrymouth, Absolute Eagles and The Bootleg Beatles
  2. Spectacular aerial displays from The Blades and The RAF Hot Air Balloon, a massive 105,000 cubic feet balloon made in the UK, will take to the skies (weather permitting)
  3. Admiring some of the best cars in the world on the sprint courses, from the Bugatti Veyron to historic Formula 1 cars and more and maybe even taking one away at the Silverstone Auction.
  4. Cakes v Pies: 50 pie makers and 50 cake makers go head to head, what’s not to like?
  5. Watching Dancing JCB Diggers, Segway Racers and Red Barrows (apparently think of the red arrows butwith wheel barrows instead of planes) and then learning how to make ice cream, bake bread and churn butter
