Town film talent takes to the stage again at Central Studio .
The past two months have seen two further milestones for Basingstoke’s blossoming independent film scene.
In June, filmmaker Geoff Harmer premiered his a feature length film shot in around Basingstoke.
Written and directed by Harmer, the film stars Paul Anthony (A Darker Shade Of Red, Body Language), Stacy Hart (The Beach) and Andrew Coppin (EastEnders, Holby City).
Addict is a drama about everything which could be wrong with relationships.
The gritty piece centres around around a protagonist who is infatuated with the wrong person, and vents his frustration with dark consequences.
At Central Studio, the screening was followed by a question and answer session with the actors and filmmakers.
Harmer billed the showing was a “great success”.
Following the screening, Seb Hall, founder of Red Carpet Screenings, who put on the Central Studio showcase described Addict as a “masterpiece”.
“Seeing the finished product of a project which had brought together such a range of local and national talent was truly inspiring,” said Hall.
“Geoff has constantly tried to push the boundaries of film making in this town, and has now come up with a real masterpiece.”
Following on from Addict, earlier this month, Red Carpet Screenings hosted its sixth Film Festival weekend.
The festival showcased a range of short films, from documentaries, animation, comedy and drama.
Guest panellists were record breaking Basingstoke rower Dave Holby, and the director of Hackwood Road-based company Face TV, Paul Friend. The event also featured an exhibition by local artist Bill Thrope, who treated the audience to some live art displays as well as a selection of his current work.
Following the festival, Seb Hall said: “Its an honour to help support and promote our film making community through the film festivals.
“Independent film has the ability to promote a town’s creative and artistic credentials nation wide, and should be supported through regular screening and networking opportunities.
“Our local film makers are already winning awards around the world for their films, just think of what they could accomplish with further investment in their work”
