Wildlife hospital celebrates two successful years
SINCE the charity opened the doors of its new hospital at Medstead, HART Wildlife Rescue has been busier and busier. In fact the success of the move meant staff, volunteers and supporters missed out on a proper opening ceremony.
“We enjoyed a warm welcome from people in the local area and their support has helped us to grow and cope with what is sometimes an almost overwhelming workload,” said hospital manager Charmian Greenland-Jones. “There is a lot to be grateful for, and shout about, so we hope as many people as possible will come and join us as we celebrate our achievements at Alton’s Community Centre.”
The main event, which is open to the general public, will take place from 2 – 5pm on Saturday 11 August 2012. As well as interesting talks and displays, there will be a chance to meet Albi, the albino hedgehog. His unusual colouring makes him too vulnerable to release so he has been given a permanent home at the centre and is helping to make people more aware of the plight of his prickly cousins.
“It will be an opportunity for all those associated with HART during the past 16 years to see how the charity has flourished in its new home and our plans for further development at the site,” Charmian added. “We also want to encourage more people who are interested in wildlife to come and find out more about us and hopefully take on an active role.”
It will be followed by a more relaxed get together in the evening for staff and volunteers from 6 – 10pm in the garden room. There will be a quiz and some refreshments. Anyone who has worked for HART in the past, and would like to attend, will be made very welcome at the second part of the day.
